Tips for your Machu Picchu Trip
The best time to visit Machu Picchu in the dry season (April to October), but in the rainy season (November to March) it is not advisable to go due to the different rains, where sometimes rain showers fall (especially for those who want to do adventure tours such as trekking because it can be very dangerous). But there is another route where you can go by car which would not be a problem, but we recommend you to go in dry season.
When you arrive in Cuzco rest at least a couple of hours for your body to get used to the altitude, then you can take advantage of visiting first sites very close to the center of the city as San Blas, the Plaza de Armas and the Stone of the 12 angles, Qoricancha or farther away is sacsayhuaman.
A good guide makes the difference of a good tour, keep in mind that you will receive a lot of information in a short period of time, ask for references about which are the most charismatic guides (you can request it if you travel in group, in that aspect there is enough flexibility as long as you manifest it) our agency has some good guides.
Visit first all the physical tourist sites and then visit the museums of the city, this way you will understand better the explanations and you will be able to learn more.
Keep in mind that to do the Inca Trail you must have very good physical condition, implements and proper equipment (not recommended for children and the elderly) also in the rainy season is extremely dangerous, it is better to do the Inca Trail in dry season. But some people like to travel in the rainy season because it is cooler and more beautiful.
When you are in Ollantaytambo wear glasses to protect yourself from wind gusts and dirt.
Always wear light, sporty clothing, keep a sweater or jacket handy at all times, remember that the weather is very variable: one moment it may rain, another it may be hot and another cold.
Bring insect repellent, remember that the area where Machu Picchu is located is at the beginning of the jungle zone of Peru.
Machu Picchu is not recommended for children.
Keep in mind that all services and trains to Machu Picchu are not the same and that there are many differences in their categories. Take into consideration that from Cusco you will have to travel half an hour by car to then take the train to Machu Picchu which has a duration of 4 hours and that depending on what class of train you travel in (check with your travel agency) the trip in an economy class can be very uncomfortable, on the other hand the trip in a superior class can be extremely comfortable and with a first class service.
Remember that your travel agency must coordinate precisely the car journeys before and after the train because if you do not do it in advance you will lose a lot of time and money looking for mobility in the area.
When you go up to Machu Picchu keep in mind that everything is more expensive up there, if you want to buy water to drink, any accessory or anything else do it in the Aguas Calientes area before going up.
The hill that is next to Machu Picchu called Huayna Picchu (which is where the photos of Machu Picchu are taken) is very dangerous and should only be climbed by people with preparation and climbing experience, all people who want to climb it are made to sign an act in which no one is responsible if something happens due to the high danger and very difficult access to the area, it is worth mentioning that this hill should not be climbed in the rainy season even if you are an experienced climber.
