Trip Details
Colca Canyon Trek
The Colca Canyon offers travelers the opportunity to get close to rural Peruvian life, watch the flight of Andean condors, bathe in secret hot springs, discover amazing views, stay in an oasis and hike dusty trails for two or three days into the depths of one of the deepest canyons in the world.
No wonder it remains one of Peru’s most popular experiences for adventure seekers.
However, the planning process for the Colca Canyon tour is definitely less straightforward than many of our other favorite tours in Peru. Not only are there at least half a dozen variants of the route that differ in length, difficulty and drama, but the transport connections from Arequipa to the various starting points are not terribly straightforward, the myriad different types of routes can be misleading if one chooses not to do it independently, and mutliday hikers will have to carry (almost) everything with them on the trail.
And that’s before reaching the exhausting ascent of the last day.
Here is everything we think you really need to know before traveling to the Colca Canyon to have the best experience for your own travel style, hiking ability.
