Day: 01 Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain Tour

Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco around 4:30–5:00 a.m. We head south on a scenic drive through the Andes, passing traditional villages, farmland, and mountain landscapes. After approximately 3.5 to 4 hours — including a brief stop for breakfast — we arrive at the trailhead near the Palccoyo community.

The hike to Palccoyo is short and gentle, taking about 45 minutes to an hour at a relaxed pace. Along the way, you’ll discover three naturally colored rainbow mountains, as well as the striking Stone Forest — a group of sharp rock formations standing at over 4,800 meters (15,750 ft). You’ll have plenty of time to explore, take photos, and enjoy panoramic views of the snow-capped Ausangate Mountain, the highest peak in the Cusco region.

After taking in the views, we begin our return hike and enjoy a scenic drive back, stopping for lunch in a local restaurant. Expect to arrive back in Cusco around 5:00–6:00 p.m., with your camera full and your heart full of unforgettable Andean memories.
